Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, Udengs Eradiri, has called on suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to seek reconciliation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in order to de-escalate the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.
Eradiri, speaking during a media interaction, accused Governor Fubara of incompetence, alleging that his poor leadership is the root cause of the tension rocking the state.
“As for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, he is incompetent and that is what has brought all this negative energy. He should not involve Ijaw in his political issues and affairs,” Eradiri stated.
The former LP flag bearer questioned Fubara’s track record of support for the Ijaw people, challenging him to show evidence of empowerment and inclusion of Ijaw youths and leaders in his administration.
“How many Ijaws of Rivers State did he empower that he is demanding Ijaw support now? How many of the IYC comrades in the Eastern zone were LGA chairmen, commissioners and appointees in his government?” he asked.
Eradiri advised the embattled governor to “kneel and beg Wike for forgiveness,” warning that those encouraging Fubara publicly are secretly submitting to Wike behind closed doors.
“Those who are deceiving him have no balls. They go cap in hand kneeling and begging the same Wike, then come in the open to claim Ijaw lions,” he added.
Eradiri also criticized the Ijaw National Congress (INC) for what he described as its poor handling of the crisis, warning the body against ethnicizing political disputes and aligning too closely with political figures.
He stressed that the INC must rise above personal loyalties and preserve its integrity.
“Nobody is more Ijaw than any other. The INC is bigger than any governor. When you belittle the institution before incompetent leaders, you open the door to ridicule and insult,” he concluded.
