Notorious bandit leader Bello Turji has resurfaced in eastern Sokoto, allegedly imposing a ₦25 million levy on villages in the region, according to a state lawmaker.
Aminu Boza, a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, raised the alarm on Tuesday, urging security agencies to act swiftly to curb Turji’s growing influence.
“Bello Turji is currently operating in the Isa and Sabon Birni axis of Sokoto. He has even imposed a ₦25 million levy per village in some communities,” Boza revealed, as shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.
The lawmaker called for intensified military operations in the area, stressing the urgent need to protect residents from further exploitation and violence by Turji’s gang.
