Aare Afe Babalola, founder of Afe Babalola University, has urged the federal government to grant a free trade certificate for his industrial park, a move he believes will attract foreign businesses and stimulate Nigeria’s economy. Speaking at the ABUAD-China Partnership Forum in Ado-Ekiti, Babalola highlighted how similar policies helped China transform its economy, calling for a similar approach in Nigeria.
Babalola revealed that an American company is ready to begin car manufacturing in his park, but the lack of the necessary certificate has stalled their plans. He criticized the government’s refusal, stating that such forward-thinking initiatives would have thrived under Nigeria’s former regional government system.
At the event, Babalola was awarded the ‘Chinese Plus Digital Intelligence Education Gold Medal’ in recognition of his contributions to education, engineering, and healthcare in Nigeria. Ms. Wendy Wang, Secretary-General of the China-Nigeria Consortium, praised his vision for integrating cutting-edge technologies at ABUAD.
