Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the former Special Adviser on Political Matters in the Office of the Vice President, has disclosed that he played no active role during his one and a half years in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking in a tell-all interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Baba-Ahmed revealed that despite his appointment, he was never given the opportunity to offer any political advice.
“No, I didn’t do any job,” he said. “I was supposed to be adviser on political matters to the President in the office of the Vice President. But I didn’t do any advising.”
He expressed deep regret over what he described as a wasted opportunity to contribute meaningfully, noting that he had a lot to offer but was left idle.
Baba-Ahmed, who resigned from his position in April, also said he declined a request for a meeting with President Tinubu. His reason, he explained, was that he would have delivered uncomfortable truths — including advising the President not to seek a second term.
“The difference between what President Tinubu’s people say the country is and what the country actually is today is miles apart. You have to wonder whether we’re living in the same Nigeria,” he said.
In a scathing assessment of the last two administrations, Baba-Ahmed accused both the Buhari and Tinubu governments of neglecting the Southeast region.
“Nobody is caring about the Southeast for the past 10 years,” he lamented.
His revelations come amid growing public concern over governance, economic hardship, and insecurity under the current administration. Baba-Ahmed has also publicly stated that he has no intention of serving under Tinubu’s government again.
