Atiku Visits Obasanjo, Denies 2027 Presidential Ambition Talks

0

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Monday paid a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his Abeokuta residence, dismissing speculations that the meeting was politically motivated.

Atiku, who arrived at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library at exactly 12:37 p.m., was accompanied by prominent political figures, including former Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke; former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Tambuwal; and Senator Abdul Ningi. They were received by elder statesman Otunba Oyewole Fasawe before proceeding to a private meeting with Obasanjo.

The closed-door discussion, which lasted about one and a half hours, fueled speculation about Atiku’s potential interest in the 2027 presidential race. However, speaking to journalists after the meeting at 2:17 p.m., Atiku dismissed such claims, insisting that his visit was purely a courtesy call.

“I am here on a courtesy visit. I am not here to talk politics,” he stated. “I was not in Abeokuta to see Obasanjo because of 2027.”

Efforts to get Tambuwal to comment on the purpose of the visit also proved unsuccessful, as he declined to speak on the matter.

The meeting comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the next election cycle, sparking curiosity about potential political moves among Nigeria’s key political figures.
