Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing deep-rooted internal divisions and a departure from the party’s founding principles.
In a letter dated July 16, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of his Ward, Jada 1, in Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Atiku blamed his decision on what he described as “irreconcilable differences” and the party’s deviation from its core values.
The resignation marks the end of a decades-long relationship with the PDP, where Atiku served as one of its most prominent figures, including a stint as its presidential candidate.
Reacting to the development, former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, took a jibe at the former Vice President in a post on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“Waziri; When the Admin left the group.”
The comment, laced with sarcasm, drew attention across social media platforms.
Atiku is currently a leading figure in the opposition coalition spearheaded by the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Political observers say he is widely expected to seek the coalition’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
