Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has responded sharply to recent comments made by Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Affairs.
Bwala, who previously served as an aide to Atiku before aligning with the current administration, had advised the former vice president to abandon any ambition for the 2027 presidency, claiming it may not be “God’s will” for him to lead the nation. He further alleged that Atiku had lost between 60 to 70 percent of his political following.
In a statement issued through his media office, Atiku dismissed Bwala’s remarks as “disparaging and desperate,” insisting they were motivated by fear within the presidency over the emergence of a growing opposition alliance. According to him, the Tinubu administration is unnerved by the momentum his coalition is gaining across the country.
The statement labeled Bwala a “political turncoat,” highlighting the irony of a former Atiku supporter now acting as a spokesperson for an administration it previously criticized. Atiku’s camp accused the presidency of orchestrating a campaign of misinformation to distract from its own failings, particularly in governance and economic management.
“The obsession with Atiku’s political future is a clear sign of panic,” the statement noted, adding that efforts to discredit him would not derail his mission to “rescue and rebuild Nigeria.”
Reaffirming his commitment to national reform, Atiku’s media team emphasized that he remains focused and undeterred. “He will not be distracted by political jesters masquerading as patriots,” the statement concluded.
