Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has once again criticized President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the escalating political unrest in Lagos and Osun states.
In a statement released via his verified X handle on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Atiku blamed the APC for the recent violence in Osun ahead of the local government elections, alleging that the ruling party is desperate to retain power at all costs.
He accused the presidency and APC leadership of turning a blind eye while armed thugs attempted to seize control of all 30 local government council secretariats in the state.
“In Osun State, the APC orchestrated a full-scale assault on the democratic process, attempting to hijack the local government elections through brute force,” Atiku alleged. “Had it not been for the fearless resistance of Osun people, democracy in the state would have been trampled under the boots of political marauders.”
The opposition leader urged security agencies to remain neutral and resist being used as tools of oppression.
“These are dangerous times,” he warned. “The APC has abandoned any pretense of democratic legitimacy and is now resorting to brute force to cling to power.”
Atiku further accused Tinubu’s administration of political sabotage nationwide, urging Nigerians to resist any attempt to undermine democracy.
“The people demand governance, not chaos. Nigerians will not sit idly while their democracy is hijacked by a power-drunk regime intent on setting the country on fire,” he stated.
This latest criticism follows Atiku’s earlier call for President Tinubu to stop interfering in state matters.
