Arewa Youth Leaders Criticizes Governor Bala Mohammed’s Opposition to Tinubu’s Economic Reforms

The Arewa Youth Leaders and Professionals Forum (AYLPF) has publicly distanced itself from Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, condemning his opposition to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms. The forum criticized the governor’s stance, asserting that it undermines the unity and progress of northern Nigeria.

At a press conference held in Abuja on Monday, AYLPF National President Abdulahi Bilal Mohammed expressed the group’s dissatisfaction with both Governor Mohammed and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. He accused both leaders of pursuing self-serving agendas that harm the region’s development.

The forum called on Nigerians to reject divisive leadership and to support President Tinubu’s administration, which it described as committed to national growth and prosperity. While acknowledging that the president’s reforms may bring temporary challenges, the group emphasized their necessity for Nigeria’s long-term success.

“We believe that Governor Bala Mohammed’s opposition to President Tinubu’s reforms is not driven by genuine concern for Nigeria’s development but reflects his disregard for national unity and the trust placed in him by the people of Bauchi State and the country at large,” said Bilal Mohammed.

The forum further claimed that the governor’s opposition was motivated by an attempt to preserve the corrupt privileges of past administrations.

“We find it disheartening that leaders entrusted with the responsibility of fostering unity and development have instead chosen a path of betrayal and self-interest,” the AYLPF stated. “Their actions not only betray the North but the entire nation.”

The forum also criticized former Governor El-Rufai, accusing him of prioritizing personal ambitions over national unity. “His recent actions and rhetoric show a disregard for the realities and needs of the Nigerian people, driven by a desperate attempt to revive his political relevance,” the group added.

Despite their criticism of some political leaders, the AYLPF expressed support for President Tinubu’s reforms, acknowledging that while they may create short-term inconveniences, they are vital for Nigeria’s future growth and prosperity.
