LAGOS — Former Minister of Interior and Interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has launched an aggressive membership recruitment campaign in Lagos, urging Nigerians to join the party’s coalition movement and vote out the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Speaking in Kosofe Local Government Area on Monday, Aregbesola accused the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP) of failing Nigerians, promising that the ADC offers a “new deal” to reset the nation on the path of progress.
“I am urging you to spread the gospel of the ADC to all Nigerians, particularly in your communities,” Aregbesola said. “Tell them that hope and opportunity await them in our party. Use the ADC platform to remove the failed APC government. Sensitise Nigerians, vote, and protect your votes.”
The ADC leader pledged to provide incentives to support grassroots mobilisation and strengthen the party’s presence ahead of the general elections.
APC Hits Back: ‘A Betrayal of Trust’
In a swift reaction, Lagos APC Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, condemned Aregbesola’s remarks, describing them as a “betrayal” of the party that had nurtured his political rise.
“It is ironic that a man who enjoyed APC’s goodwill for over two decades — from being a Commissioner in Lagos to Governor of Osun and later Minister — can now denounce the same party,” Oladejo said. “If APC has failed, Aregbesola must take responsibility for his role in governance instead of seeking cheap political relevance.”
Oladejo accused the former minister of “political desperation and opportunism” and maintained that the Lagos APC remains united and committed to delivering democratic dividends.
South-West APC Plots Tinubu’s 2027 Victory
Meanwhile, the South-West APC has announced plans to recruit over 2,000 canvassers across all electoral wards in the region to bolster President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Zonal Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, disclosed this after the party’s South-West Zonal Executive Committee meeting in Akure, Ondo State, saying the move was to replicate in the South-West the level of electoral support the North-West consistently gave former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Our goal is to ensure the South-West delivers massively for President Tinubu in 2027,” Kekemeke said.
