ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended former governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, alongside one of his political allies, Kunle Folarin, over alleged anti-party misconduct.
The suspension was announced in a statement on Tuesday by the party’s Director of Publicity, Nuberu Olufemi, after a State Working Committee (SWC) meeting presided over by the state chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi.
According to the statement, Daniel, a member of APC Ward 4, and Folarin, from Ward 6 in Sagamu Local Government Area, were suspended following recommendations of disciplinary committees set up to probe petitions of gross misconduct and anti-party activities against them.
The statement revealed that both men were formally invited to appear before their respective ward committees to defend themselves but failed to honour the summons or submit written defences.
“However, both members failed to respond to the invitations extended to them in writing, failed to provide a written defence, and failed to attend the disciplinary meetings at which they were to be given the opportunity to defend themselves,” the party said.
The committees further alleged that Daniel and Folarin attempted to intimidate party members and pressured them to withdraw petitions against them.
“In view of their deliberate absence and interference with the process, the committees resolved to suspend the members indefinitely, pending further investigation,” the statement added.
The SWC subsequently ratified the suspensions, stressing that the action was necessary to protect the integrity of the party’s constitution and uphold internal discipline.
