APC Moves to Zone National Chairmanship to North Central

There are strong indications that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has resolved to zone its National Chairmanship position to the North Central geopolitical zone, as the party prepares for its crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for today, Thursday.

Sources within the party revealed that the decision was reached after a series of high-level meetings held in the lead-up to the NEC gathering. The North Central region has been at the forefront of agitation for the chairmanship role following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who led the party to victory in the 2023 presidential election before stepping down on June 27.

Although the APC is reportedly considering Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and a former governorship candidate in Plateau State, as a possible replacement, DAILY POST cannot independently confirm his nomination at this time.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday night after a meeting between the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma hinted that the NEC meeting will be brief and focused.

“The meeting will be a very brief one that will centre on the appointment of the National Chairman,” Uzodimma stated.

When asked whether the new chairman would emerge through consensus, he responded cautiously: “We cannot say what the outcome will be. When you come there tomorrow (today), you will see it.”

The outcome of today’s NEC meeting is expected to shape the future leadership structure of the APC as it positions itself ahead of future electoral contests.
