A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has raised serious concerns over what he describes as the sidelining of Vice President Kashim Shettima in the current administration.
Eze, a former National Publicity Secretary of the now-defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), criticized the Tinubu-led government for reducing the Vice President’s role to merely representing the presidency at social events such as weddings and funerals.
“This is sad, unfortunate, and unacceptable. A highly respected politician like Shettima should not be relegated to the role of an event attendee,” Eze lamented.
He also questioned President Bola Tinubu’s consistent refusal to transmit power to Shettima during his frequent trips abroad, describing the move as unconstitutional and politically insensitive.
“For two years, Shettima has served as Vice President, and yet each time the President travels out of the country, he refuses to hand over power. This is not only condemnable but also violates the spirit and letters of the Nigerian Constitution,” Eze stated.
While clarifying that he is not necessarily a supporter of the Vice President, Eze said he spoke out as a concerned Nigerian, warning that the office of the Vice President is too exalted to be sacrificed on the altar of political convenience.
His comments have sparked fresh debate about the internal dynamics within the APC and the role of the Vice President in the current administration.
