A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), George Agbakahi, says the ruling party would welcome former President Goodluck Jonathan if he chooses to contest the 2027 presidential election under its platform.
Agbakahi, who also leads the South East Tinubu’s Support Group, stated this on Friday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, stressing that the APC remains confident in its strength and in the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“I’ve said it earlier, politics is very dynamic, and we are looking at a year and a half from today. We already know there are about three or four major political parties that will be vying for this presidency,” he said.
“President Jonathan is a good man. He can come to PDP and contest. APC is waiting. Peter Obi is a very good man. He can come to Labour Party or ADC and contest. The same thing is applicable with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.”
While maintaining that APC is prepared for a competitive race, Agbakahi noted that it is still too early to determine under which parties the top contenders will run.
“So that’s why I say it’s too early to tell — is President Jonathan coming to PDP or ADC? Will Peter Obi contest under Labour or ADC? The same thing applies to Atiku Abubakar,” he said.
He added that in his view, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is already leaning toward Atiku. “As a political analyst, I know very well that in ADC, I don’t think there is any of the presidential hopefuls that will take the candidacy away from Atiku Abubakar. ADC is like Atiku Abubakar’s baby, and he will be the presidential candidate of ADC. Peter Obi definitely may go to LP. The more, the merrier.”
Agbakahi concluded by saying the APC is ready for any challenge: “We want Jonathan to come out and contest. We want Peter Obi to come out and contest. We want Atiku to come out and contest. You know, APC is well grounded.”
