Amid growing concerns over economic hardship across the country, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), George Agbakahi, has asserted that Nigeria is witnessing better days under President Bola Tinubu compared to the years governed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking on Arise Television’s news programme on Thursday, Agbakahi maintained that the current administration has introduced far-reaching initiatives that have improved the lives of ordinary Nigerians and brought renewed hope, especially to youths and parents.
“Of course, Nigeria of today is a lot better than Nigeria of the PDP days,” he said. “Look at some of the initiatives that the current president has put in place. During the PDP days, did you ever hear about student loans? Let’s be sincere.”
He praised President Tinubu’s policies, citing the introduction of student loans, free vocational and technical training, and investments in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles as evidence of progress.
Agbakahi also highlighted economic support measures such as the ₦200 billion funding from the Bank of Industry for SMEs and a ₦100 billion youth fund, which he said have begun to positively impact lives.
While acknowledging the hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy and unification of exchange rates, Agbakahi said these decisions were long overdue and necessary to correct what he described as an “artificial economy” sustained during previous administrations.
He insisted the situation is beginning to improve, adding, “Truly, it is easing up. That’s why you have all these initiatives.”
Agbakahi dismissed comparisons between the PDP era and the current administration as unfair, stating, “There is no way you can compare the PDP days and this current administration. No, no, no — it’s not doable.”
His comments come amid intensifying debate over the state of Nigeria’s economy, rising inflation, and increasing poverty levels, which critics say have worsened under the current government.
