APC Chairman Ganduje Calls for Offensive Strategy Against Banditry

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has urged the military to adopt an offensive strategy to combat banditry and insurgency in Nigeria.

Ganduje emphasized the need for security forces to take control of forests in the northern region, where bandits operate. He made the remarks during a condolence visit to Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, following the recent tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Suleja.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje commended Governor Bago’s efforts in ensuring security across Niger State. He highlighted the state’s vast land mass and extensive forests, which he noted are often exploited by bandits.

“The solution to this menace is to conquer the forest,” Ganduje stated. “The bandits are in the forest, so why have we remained on the defensive instead of taking an offensive approach? During my tenure as Governor of Kano State, I requested through the Federal Government that the military take over Falgore Forest. The military then established a training ground in the area, which successfully drove the bandits out. Today, Kano enjoys peace.”

Ganduje’s comments underline the growing consensus on the need for proactive measures to address insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in states with significant forest cover.

Governor Bago expressed his gratitude for the visit and reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Niger State.
