The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday commenced the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms to aspirants vying for legislative seats in the forthcoming National Assembly bye-elections scheduled for August 16 across 12 states.
The bye-elections are being conducted to fill vacant seats left by lawmakers who either passed away or resigned to assume executive roles.
One of the aspirants, Mr. Oscar Aghedo, who is contesting for the Ovia South-West/North-East Federal Constituency seat in Edo State, expressed confidence in delivering quality representation, especially in the area of infrastructural development.
Speaking with journalists at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja after picking up his nomination forms, Aghedo described the day as a significant milestone in his political journey.
“My intention to represent my people is to make quality laws and ensure effective representation, especially through infrastructural development. I assure you that I will make my people proud,” he said.
Aghedo, accompanied by some of his supporters, urged the APC National Working Committee (NWC) to ensure that the primary elections scheduled for July 19 are free, fair, and credible.
He pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor, who is now the Edo State Deputy Governor, by prioritizing human capital development, youth and women empowerment, and community-based constituency projects.
“The previous representative did excellently well in infrastructure. I intend to continue from where he stopped and further focus on empowering our people,” he stated.
He added that keeping youths engaged meaningfully would curb crime and other social vices in the area, noting that while insecurity in the constituency is currently low, efforts must be made to maintain peace and stability.
Another aspirant, Mr. Yakubu Waziri, who is vying for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency seat in Kaduna State, also picked up his forms at the APC Secretariat.
Waziri expressed optimism about the progress being recorded in his constituency, attributing the return of peace to the efforts of President Bola Tinubu and the Kaduna State Government.
“For years, our area was in the news for insecurity. But today, we are not just seeing relative peace, we are enjoying permanent peace,” he said.
Waziri promised to focus on security, youth development, and inclusive empowerment initiatives if elected. He noted that he is confident heading into the elections, backed by divine grace, the people’s support, and the goodwill of the state governor.
The APC has continued preparations toward the August 16 bye-elections, which are expected to reshape the representation landscape in several federal and state legislative constituencies.
