Another Key Exit: Hakeem Baba-Ahmed Resigns as VP’s Political Adviser

0

Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, Special Adviser on Political Matters to Vice President Kashim Shettima, has tendered his resignation, marking the second high-profile exit from the Tinubu administration in recent months.

Presidency sources confirmed that Baba-Ahmed, a former spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), submitted his resignation letter about two weeks ago, citing personal reasons. However, it remains unclear whether the resignation has been formally accepted by the presidency as of the time of filing this report.

Appointed in September 2023, Baba-Ahmed was a visible figure in political circles, often representing the presidency at key national engagements throughout his tenure.

His exit comes just months after the resignation of Ajuri Ngelale, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, who stepped down on September 7, 2024. Ngelale announced that he was proceeding on an indefinite leave of absence to address urgent medical issues affecting his immediate family. He also relinquished other key roles, including:

Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action

Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen

In a heartfelt statement, Ngelale said: “While I fully appreciate that the ship of state waits for no man, this agonizing decision… was taken after significant consultations with my family… as a vexatious medical situation has worsened at home. I look forward to returning to full-time national service when time, healing, and fate permit.”

Baba-Ahmed’s resignation adds to growing concerns over the stability of the president’s communication and advisory team, raising questions about the internal dynamics within the administration.

Observers will be watching closely to see how the presidency responds to this latest departure and who may be appointed to fill the crucial role.
