Idumuje-Ugboko, Delta State — Senator representing Delta North, Prince Ned Nwoko, has assured that the long-awaited creation of Anioma State is well on track, declaring it “effectively a done deal.”
Speaking at his country home in Idumuje-Ugboko on Saturday, Senator Nwoko disclosed that all legislative steps necessary for the establishment of the proposed state have been initiated and are progressing steadily at the Senate.
“We are on course. The technical committee will be inaugurated in Asaba to help actualise the creation of Anioma State,” he stated. “We have moved from the committee stage to the public hearing, which is coming up in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. After that, the bill will return to the Senate for its third reading.”
The lawmaker revealed that 75 senators are currently in support of the bill and highlighted recent endorsement from the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Umar Ganduje, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Agbor. “If you were at Agbor, you heard when the National Chairman of the APC said the creation of Anioma State is a done deal,” Nwoko reaffirmed.
Prominent APC leaders and stakeholders have also thrown their weight behind the initiative.
Chief Emma Ejiofor, a key APC chieftain, called for collective unity and warned that any Delta State House of Assembly member from the Delta North senatorial district who fails to back the proposal risks being recalled by constituents.
Former House of Representatives member, Hon. Nicholas Ossai, stressed the developmental potential of the proposed state. “We must support Senator Ned Nwoko to achieve this feat. When Anioma becomes a state, more local government areas will be created, and our people will benefit greatly,” he said.
Echoing the call for unity, former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochei, urged reconciliation among party members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We are not building a party to divide us. We are building one to unite everyone, especially in Delta North,” Ochei remarked.
As momentum continues to build, the creation of Anioma State appears to be gaining unprecedented bipartisan support, with leaders urging residents and representatives to remain steadfast in pursuit of what they describe as a historic opportunity for the region.
