The Anambra State Government has refuted claims made by a town crier in Abagana community that it plans to arrest women who go about without bras and underwear.
Following the enactment of the Anambra Homeland Security Law, which targets criminal activities such as ritual practices by native doctors and aims to regulate non-indigenes in local communities, the announcement by the town crier sparked widespread attention and controversy.
The Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on New Media, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, issued a statement clarifying that the announcement was not from the state government or any of its security agencies. He emphasized that the government’s focus remains on tackling crime and maintaining law and order, not regulating women’s attire.
Opara advised the public to disregard the announcement, urging citizens to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by reporting criminal activities in their communities.
