The Anambra State House of Assembly has officially approved the N607 billion budget for the year 2025, presented by Governor Chukwuma Soludo on November 19, 2024. The budget, which has now passed without alterations to the overall amount, promises a strategic focus on capital development and educational enhancement.

Speaking during a post-passage media briefing, Mr. Ejike Okechukwu, the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, confirmed the passage of the budget and highlighted the realignments made within the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Okechukwu clarified that while the total budget size remains the same as proposed by the governor, some internal adjustments were made to ensure that the government can address immediate funding needs in various sectors.

A significant portion of the budget, totaling N407.5 billion (77%), has been earmarked for capital projects, a key focus for the state’s development initiatives. Meanwhile, N139.5 billion (23%) has been allocated to recurrent expenditure, which covers operational costs of government activities.

In a noteworthy move, the budget increases allocations for educational institutions, with Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and Nwafor Orizu College of Education receiving higher allocations for recurrent expenses and subventions. These adjustments are aimed at enhancing the performance and operational efficiency of these institutions.

Okechukwu expressed confidence that the executive branch of the government would achieve a significant level of implementation of the 2025 budget, with projections suggesting an execution rate of over 80%. This commitment underscores the state’s determination to prioritize developmental goals while ensuring fiscal responsibility.
