Amaechi Sparks Fresh Controversy, Says Peter Obi Won 2023 Presidential Poll in Rivers

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has stirred debate over the 2023 presidential election results, claiming that Labour Party (LP) candidate, Peter Obi, actually won in Rivers State.

Speaking during an X Space discussion on Saturday, the former Rivers State governor admitted: “I can agree with you to some extent that Obi won Rivers State. But I don’t know how the results were changed.”

Amaechi’s remarks add a fresh twist to the lingering controversy surrounding the February 2023 polls, where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the overall winner.

According to INEC’s official figures, APC secured 231,591 votes in Rivers State, while LP came second with 175,071 votes. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) finished third with 88,468 votes.

His comments have reignited discussions about alleged electoral irregularities and the credibility of the results announced in one of Nigeria’s most politically charged states.
