A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, has taken a swipe at former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of having serious character flaws and an uncontrollable temperament.
In a strongly worded Facebook post on Sunday, Igbokwe alleged that Amaechi’s conduct in past political engagements revealed disturbing traits, adding that he should not be taken seriously.
“If you have had personal experience with former Governor Rotimi Amaechi as I did at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, in 2015 when PMB came to campaign in Lagos, you will not take him seriously at all. He has a serious character issue,” Igbokwe wrote.
The APC stalwart recounted an incident during the 2015 presidential campaign of Muhammadu Buhari (PMB), claiming that Amaechi exhibited what he described as a “very bad temperament” at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
He also cited a similar encounter involving Alhaji Kabiru Abdullahi, former Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure in Lagos State. According to Igbokwe, Amaechi allegedly attempted to eject Arewa leaders from the podium at a campaign event for President Buhari held at Agege Stadium, causing a confrontation.
“Amaechi came into the venue and asked all the Arewa leaders who organized the show to leave the podium. They refused and challenged him without measure,” he added.
Igbokwe’s comments come shortly after Amaechi, while speaking at his 60th birthday celebration in Abuja, decried the level of hunger in the country, claiming that he and many Nigerians are struggling.
The former minister also asserted that the opposition has what it takes to unseat President Bola Tinubu in future elections, while criticizing Nigerian politicians for frequently fighting over the sharing of national resources.
The remarks appear to have reignited intra-party tensions, with Igbokwe’s post signaling broader discontent within APC ranks over Amaechi’s recent political statements and past actions.
