In a dramatic political twist, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reportedly ordered all commissioners and political appointees in his cabinet to either defect with him to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or immediately resign from their positions.
The directive was issued during a State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting held on Thursday, where the governor openly confirmed his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
According to sources at the closed-door meeting, Governor Eno said his move should not come as a surprise to anyone within his administration.
“Anybody who claims he is not aware of my intention to leave the PDP is still living in the 18th century,” the governor declared.
He cited his admiration for President Bola Tinubu’s leadership style as a key reason for his switch, expressing a desire to collaborate more closely with the Federal Government.
Governor Eno also issued a stern warning to his appointees, making it clear that there would be no room for negotiation with those who choose to remain in the PDP.
“Apart from elected officials like House of Assembly members and Local Government Chairmen, I have nothing to negotiate with you,” he stated.
He further maintained that despite his exit from the PDP, he would continue to control the party’s structure in the state.
“Anybody who believes that when I leave the PDP he will use the party structure to fight me is lying, because I will still control the PDP structure,” Eno said.
As of the time of filing this report, the EXCO meeting was still ongoing, with more developments expected to unfold.
