Port Harcourt, Nigeria – President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has lauded the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his political acumen, asserting that “only those not in their right senses” would sustain a quarrel with him.
Akpabio made the remark on Friday at a public lecture and book launch commemorating Wike’s birthday in Port Harcourt. His comments appeared to address the ongoing rift between Wike and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who succeeded him.
As the Special Guest of Honour, Akpabio critiqued Governor Fubara’s approach to managing the political tensions in Rivers State, emphasizing the importance of harmonious relations with legislative leadership. Drawing from his tenure as governor of Akwa Ibom State, he shared insights into navigating political dynamics.
“For those who may not understand politics, we were taught that the parliament can turn a woman into a man and a man into a woman. As a governor, my greatest fear was my House of Assembly. That’s why I always worked closely with my Speaker,” Akpabio said.
The Senate President also praised Wike’s ability to resolve disputes swiftly, highlighting his resilience and focus on nation-building. “No one in their right senses would sustain a quarrel with Wike,” he remarked, commending Wike’s legacy as a bridge-builder in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Addressing Wike directly, Akpabio said, “Your contributions to Nigeria’s political development, both as governor and now as minister, are indelible. The bridges you’ve built stand as a testament to your commitment to progress and unity.”
The event underscored Wike’s continued influence in national politics, as attendees celebrated his achievements and contributions to governance.
