Ajaka Under Fire for Calling Out Akpabio Over Natasha’s Senate Outburst

The recent controversy surrounding Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s outburst in the Senate has sparked further tensions, as Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Alhaji Murtala Ajaka, faces backlash for demanding the removal of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Ajaka accused Akpabio of persistently bullying Senator Natasha and called on fellow lawmakers to replace him with a more “competent leader.” However, his remarks drew criticism from the Citizens Network For Peace and Development (CNPD), which condemned both Natasha’s conduct and Ajaka’s response.

In a statement on Tuesday, CNPD’s Executive Director, Barr. Francis Okereke Wainwei, defended Akpabio, insisting he was merely enforcing Senate rules to uphold parliamentary decorum.

“It is disheartening that someone aspiring to govern a state would endorse such unruly behavior simply due to shared state ties,” Wainwei stated. “Leaders should respect the principles of objectivity and due process. Ajaka’s reckless comments highlight a concerning lack of understanding about parliamentary conduct.”

The organization urged Ajaka to familiarize himself with the workings of the Senate and advised Senator Natasha to focus on her legislative duties rather than becoming a distraction.

“She should concentrate on lawmaking, oversight, and representing her constituents, avoiding actions that tarnish the Senate’s image,” Wainwei added.

CNPD also called on Akpabio and the public to remain focused and not be swayed by the controversy.

“The Senate President must continue to uphold the integrity of the chamber, while Nigerians should not be misled by individuals attempting to undermine the National Assembly for selfish political agendas,” the statement concluded.
