In Borno State, Northeastern Nigeria, the air component of Operation Hadin Kai has killed no fewer than twenty-two rebels in airstrikes. The terrorists were slain on Sunday at an enclave while attempting to avoid being discovered by the army, according to a statement released on Monday by NAF Public Relations and Information Director Edward Gabkwet.
According to Gabkwet, the airstrikes were carried out in response to information from the NAF’s ground unit that roughly twenty-two terrorists had been spotted in two motorcycles and a gun truck close to Marte.
He said that the NAF jets were sent there right once to blockade the area. Following an area check, he added, the terrorists were seen travelling northward toward Munguno and around 22 kilometres west of Marte.
NAN quoted the NAF spokesperson as saying, “After trailing the terrorists for about 70 minutes, the terrorists in the gun truck and two motorcycles stopped underneath a tree, probably to refuel or evade being seen.
“The targets were subsequently engaged with a huge ball of fire engulfing the area observed afterwards, destroying the gun struck and motorcycles with no sign of movement observed afterwards.
“The huge explosion could be indicative that the point where the terrorists hid was likely a logistics base or their vehicle was conveying weapons or explosive ordinances.”
According to Gabkwet, the ineffective tactics terrorists used to avoid discovery were a symptom of their incapacity to hold territory, pose serious risks to military formations, or randomly attack vulnerable civilian targets.
He claimed that the terrorists’ actions had demonstrated their ongoing weakness and desperation.
According to the NAF spokesperson, State Governor Babagana Zulum stated that while economic activity had increased, the state’s security situation had improved by more than 85%.
Zulum also affirmed the effectiveness of the military’s and other security services’ efforts.
