Agidigbo FM, an Ibadan-based radio station, has issued an official statement clarifying its involvement in the tragic Children’s Funfair event held at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, on Wednesday. The event, organized by the WINGS Foundation, took a devastating turn, leading to confusion and widespread speculation regarding the station’s role.

In a statement signed by Olayinka AbdulWahab, the station’s Director of Programs, Agidigbo FM emphasized that while it was one of the media partners, it was not the organizer of the event. The station explained that its role was limited to promoting the event, not managing or organizing it.

“We were deeply shocked by the tragedy that unfolded during the children’s funfair,” the statement read. “However, we would like to clarify that Agidigbo FM is not the organizer of this event. Our role was strictly as a media partner, helping to promote the funfair to the public.”

The station further revealed that, upon learning of the large crowd gathering at the venue as early as 5 a.m., it immediately took action by using its media platforms to advise the public to avoid the location to prevent further chaos. Public service announcements and jingles were aired throughout the day urging people to stay away.

“Upon receiving reports of a massive crowd at the venue before 5 a.m., Agidigbo FM used all available media channels, including jingles and public service announcements, to warn the public against attending the event. This was done to help prevent the unfortunate situation that followed,” the statement continued.

Agidigbo FM also urged the public to refrain from spreading false information, which had been circulating, and called for a focus on verified facts. The station also expressed condolences to the victims and their families, urging prayers for those affected.

“We urge everyone to shun the spread of fake news and focus on verified information. This is not the time for misinformation,” the statement emphasized.

The WINGS Foundation, which organized the event, had taken precautions to ensure safety, deploying security personnel and medical teams to assist those affected by the incident.

“We share in the sorrow of those affected and implore the public to continue praying for the speedy recovery of the injured and offer sympathy to the families who have lost loved ones,” Agidigbo FM concluded.

The station’s management has also promised to continue providing updates and accurate information to the public in the wake of the tragedy.
