Afenifere Youth Coalition Condemns Omoyele Sowore’s Attacks on Yoruba Leaders, Calls for Legal Action

The Afenifere Youth Coalition has strongly criticized Omoyele Sowore, the former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), accusing him of launching “relentless attacks on Yoruba public office holders,” particularly the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

Sowore, a well-known Nigerian activist, was recently arrested by the Nigeria Police after alleging that the IGP’s continued tenure in office was illegal. The activist was later arraigned in a Federal High Court in Abuja, where he was granted bail in the sum of N10 million.

At a press conference held in Lagos on Friday, Rasak Oladosu, Director of Strategy, and Samuel Isijola, President of the coalition, condemned Sowore’s actions, accusing him of “defamation, blackmail, and cyberbullying.” The coalition called for legal measures to be taken to hold Sowore accountable for his conduct.

The coalition also accused the activist of using social media to spread misinformation and incite unrest across the nation, labeling him a “failed politician and professional troublemaker.” They criticized his presidential bid under the AAC, describing it as a failure that highlighted his lack of leadership capabilities and inability to garner significant electoral support.

“We urge Nigerians not to be deceived by his theatrics. Sowore is more concerned with his personal interests and anti-democracy supporters than the well-being of Nigerian citizens,” the coalition stated. They also cautioned Sowore’s supporters against being exploited by his alleged selfish agenda.

The coalition emphasized that social media is not a substitute for the legal system, urging the judiciary and security agencies to ensure that Sowore is held accountable for his actions. “Nigeria is bigger than any individual, and we will not allow one person’s agenda to derail the progress of our nation,” they added.
