Adeleke Vows to Reopen Osun LGs, Declares: “We Shall Overcome the Pharaohs Holding Osun Down”

OSOGBO — Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has pledged to revive local government administration across the state, insisting that his government will not allow political forces to stall development.

Speaking on Thursday at a reception organised in his honour by the state leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osogbo, Adeleke likened his opponents to the Biblical Pharaoh, saying they are unsettled by his administration’s progress.

“We will get our local government back and running. They want to hold Osun down. They are shocked by our delivery and transformation of Osun; they want to stop our development,” Adeleke declared to a cheering crowd of party faithful.

He urged residents not to allow a return to what he described as an era of “bad governance,” while calling on citizens to participate actively in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to secure their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of future elections.

“We must sustain good governance. We must sustain the tempo. The good work must continue. Osun people are with us, God is with us, and we shall overcome the Pharaohs facing us,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, and Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Lere Oyewumi, rallied PDP members to remain united behind the governor, stressing the importance of voter participation ahead of the 2026 governorship poll.

Local government activities in Osun have been grounded since February 17 following a tussle between the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over control of the councils.

While the APC insists that the Court of Appeal ruling of February 10 reinstated officials elected in the October 15, 2022, elections, the PDP maintains that its candidates, declared winners in the February 22, 2025, polls, hold the valid mandate to run the councils.
