Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has dispelled widespread rumours of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), firmly stating that he remains committed to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and to his vow of serving the people of the state.
Speaking during the flag-off of the 3.5-kilometre Ila township road dualisation project in Ila-Orangun on Monday, Adeleke emphasized that his administration’s focus is on delivering dividends of democracy, not political distractions.
“I am going nowhere. I have vowed to my God and the good people of Osun that I am committed to serving them. I will never be distracted from that vow,” the governor said.
He highlighted the progress made under his leadership, noting the successful rehabilitation, reconstruction, and renovation of over 175 kilometres of roads. He also assured that major dualisation and flyover projects across the state are at various stages of completion.
Later in Ikirun, during the flag-off of the second phase of the dualisation of the Ikirun-Ila-Odo expressway, Adeleke reiterated his commitment to infrastructure development. He described the 39-kilometre road—connecting Osogbo through Ikirun to Ila-Odo at the Kwara boundary—as a priority that would be completed within 12 months.
Meanwhile, amid speculation surrounding Adeleke’s alleged defection, Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and APC governorship aspirant, Bola Oyebamiji, urged party supporters not to panic.
Addressing supporters in the Ijesa-North federal constituency, Oyebamiji said: “Our leader, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, asked me to assure you that there is no cause for alarm. The APC remains intact, and no one will hijack the efforts of loyal party members.”
He also accused the Adeleke administration of mismanaging over N1 trillion in revenue over the past 30 months, saying there’s little to show for the massive allocations received by the state.
In a related development, former Osun-East senator and APC stalwart, Babajide Omoworare, alleged that the PDP’s victory in the 2022 governorship election was not due to Adeleke’s popularity but the APC’s internal crisis.
Declaring his intention to contest the APC governorship ticket in 2026, Omoworare said: “The APC lost Osun in 2022 due to internal discord. I’m here to help us get it right. I’ve contested five times and never lost—I am a five-star general in politics.”
As the political climate in Osun heats up ahead of 2026, Adeleke maintains that he is focused on fulfilling his mandate while opposition voices continue to question his leadership and performance.
