ADC Confirms Peter Obi’s Clarifies Membership Status, Not Registered

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has confirmed that the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, is not a registered member of the party, despite being an active participant in its opposition coalition.

Speaking during a live appearance on Channels Television on Wednesday night, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, explained that while Obi is not a card-carrying member, he remains a committed stakeholder in the coalition.

“Peter Obi has been part of the coalition from day one,” Abdullahi stated. “He has attended almost every meeting of the coalition.”

According to the ADC spokesman, Obi formally requested permission from the coalition’s leadership to remain within the Labour Party until he concludes ongoing political engagements stemming from the 2023 general election.

“He asked for leave to allow him complete the election that his people were involved in under the Labour Party,” Abdullahi explained.

The same arrangement, he noted, applies to former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, who is also part of the opposition alliance.

“The leadership allowed them to complete the election processes that they started in their respective parties,” he said.

While Obi’s formal membership remains with the Labour Party, Abdullahi emphasized that he is a “full member” of the coalition, which is working to build a united front ahead of the 2027 elections.

The clarification comes amid growing political realignments and speculations regarding possible mergers or alliances aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general election.
