ADC Chair Denies Ties With Atiku, Vows to Resist “Infiltrators” Ahead of 2027

BAUCHI — Acting National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala, has dismissed claims that he held talks with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over the affairs of the party, insisting that Atiku remains a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member and has no stake in the ADC.

Speaking with journalists in Bauchi, Bala declared: “It is not true and I don’t know where it is coming from. Atiku Abubakar is not a member of the ADC, why should I have discussions with him about ADC? As the Acting National Chairman of the ADC, I will not go and discuss with anyone about the ADC.”

Bala, who formally assumed leadership of the party following the resignation of Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, assured that he remains the authentic leader of the ADC as recognized by its constitution. He vowed to resist attempts by infiltrators to hijack the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, elements from the PDP, APC, LP, and APGA have “infiltrated” the ADC with the aim of destabilising it. He accused some individuals, allegedly handpicked by Nwosu, of parading themselves as party leaders despite not being registered ADC members.

“As it is now, I am the authentic Acting National Chairman of the ADC, and I have since resumed office. I am in control of the party structure at all levels in accordance with the constitution of the party,” Bala declared.

He urged those claiming leadership positions to return to their wards, register properly, and renounce their membership of other political parties before seeking to participate in ADC affairs.

On reports of his expulsion from the ADC in Gombe State, Bala dismissed the claims, stressing that he was recently reaffirmed as a bonafide member by stakeholders in his ward.

Bala further alleged that some of the impostors parading as ADC leaders are being sponsored by the ruling APC and the Federal Government in a bid to weaken the party, just as they had allegedly done to other opposition groups.

He confirmed that the party leadership changes had already been communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and urged ADC members nationwide to remain vigilant, united, and committed to the survival of the party.
