ADC Accuses APC, FG of Political Hypocrisy Over Buhari’s Death

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Federal Government of engaging in political hypocrisy following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement released on Monday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC criticized what it described as a sudden shift in tone by the APC and senior government officials who, despite consistently blaming Buhari for the nation’s challenges over the past two years, are now positioning themselves as chief mourners.

“The party and the government that had done everything in the last two years to tarnish his records, dismantle his legacies, and blame him for every one of their failings, are now posturing as the chief mourners at his burial,” the statement read in part.

The ADC described the behaviour as a display of “political opportunism” and warned against attempts to exploit a national tragedy for political gain. The party also urged the late President’s family and supporters to be vigilant in the face of what it termed insincere tributes.

Despite its criticisms, the ADC paid tribute to Buhari, praising his humility, integrity, and dedication to public service. It called on Nigerians to remember the former President for his virtues and to uphold his legacy as a model for ethical leadership.

Buhari passed away in London at the age of 82 after a brief illness.
