Former All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, has called on the Senate leadership to halt what he described as the “unnecessary dramatization” surrounding the ongoing controversy with suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Garba, in a post on Tuesday via his X handle, criticized the Senate for allowing the situation to spiral into what he termed a “populist spectacle,” arguing that the matter could have been better handled internally.
“The Senate leadership needs to stop the unnecessary dramatization of this Natasha saga. The hallowed chamber shouldn’t be allowed to give an opportunity for populist activism. Containing her within the chamber would’ve been better than allowing her populist appeal on the street,” he stated.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, was suspended from the Senate for six months after failing to substantiate allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
However, conflicting interpretations have trailed a ruling by Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja Federal High Court. While the embattled lawmaker insists the ruling permits her to resume legislative duties, the Senate maintains that the judgment was merely advisory.
On Tuesday, Natasha attempted to enforce the court’s decision by showing up at the National Assembly complex but was denied entry by security personnel.
The development has sparked renewed debate on legislative accountability, judicial authority, and the handling of internal disciplinary matters within Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber.
