Prominent Nigerian activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has taken a swipe at President Bola Tinubu following the president’s recent remarks about leading the nation to the “promised land.”
In a New Year message delivered at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the country’s progress. He expressed optimism about the journey ahead, attributing his confidence to the continued support of the National Assembly over the past 19 months.
“We are determined, we are capable, and we are resolute, and we will be there. We will take Nigeria to that promised land with you,” Tinubu declared to the gathering.
However, Adeyanju responded with a dose of sarcasm, expressing his skepticism about the president’s vision. Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Adeyanju wrote, “Tinubu promises to take Nigerians to the ‘promised land’ in his New Year message. ME: Please drop me; I don’t want to follow Nigerians to where you are taking them. Thank you very much.”
The comment has sparked a wave of reactions, with supporters and critics engaging in a heated debate over the administration’s promises and its performance so far.
President Tinubu, who assumed office in May 2023, has consistently called for unity and patience as his government implements policies aimed at tackling Nigeria’s economic and social challenges. However, critics like Adeyanju continue to question the feasibility and direction of these plans.
The dialogue underscores the divided sentiments among Nigerians regarding the administration’s ability to deliver on its promises in the coming years.
