ABUJA — Prominent human rights and anti-corruption crusader, Comrade Ibrahim Garba Wala, widely known as IG Wala, has abandoned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Wala declared his allegiance to the ADC, becoming one of its latest high-profile members following the appointment of former Senate President, David Mark, as the party’s interim national chairman.
He urged Nigerians across generations to rally behind the ADC, stressing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has brought untold hardship to the nation.
“The journey to a better Nigeria is not about fighting each other but about building bridges of understanding,” Wala said.
Reflecting on his political convictions, he added: “For a long time, like many of you, I have felt the sting of political frustration and disappointment. I have pointed fingers and placed blame, convinced that our nation’s problems were the fault of a few individuals. This is a common and understandable feeling, but I’ve come to a powerful realisation: our focus on blame has held us back. Blaming is easy. It keeps us stuck in the past and blinds us to the real work that needs to be done.”
The ADC has recently attracted heavyweight politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, as well as Ovation publisher Dele Momodu and former Kogi senator Dino Melaye.
Meanwhile, the APC has waved off the growing opposition front, dismissing the ADC’s chances after its poor outing in the August 16 bye-elections across the country.
