ABUJA — The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has taken a swipe at the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as an “Uber politician” who refuses to take a clear stand in Nigeria’s political space.
In a statement personally signed on Friday, LP National Chairman Julius Abure accused Obi of elevating political subterfuge to an art form, alleging that the former Anambra governor has a track record of associating with multiple political parties simultaneously in his quest to lead the country.
“Obi has now booked a place for himself in the Guinness Book of Records as someone affiliated with many political parties pari pasu, all in his desperation to preside over Nigeria,” Abure said.
He added: “It is unfortunate that Obi has turned himself into an irony and a paradox in Nigerian politics. He has become an ‘Uber’ politician, not willing to take a position and stand by his decision.”
Abure’s remarks came in reaction to Obi’s recent directive urging his supporters to back African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidates in the August 16 by-elections across various states.
The LP faction leader claimed Obi’s latest move undermines the party’s unity and raises questions about his political loyalty, further fueling tensions within the Labour Party ahead of the polls.
