The Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum (SGF) and Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has extended heartfelt sympathies to the governments and citizens of Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the devastating stampedes at food palliative distribution centers.

Reports indicate that around 65 Nigerians lost their lives, with many others injured as they gathered to receive aid in response to the ongoing economic challenges. Governor Abiodun expressed his deep sorrow in separate condolence messages to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra, and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

In his message, Governor Abiodun emphasized that the deaths were particularly tragic, as the victims were simply pursuing basic necessities for survival. Despite the nation’s economic struggles, he reassured citizens that efforts are underway to improve living conditions across all levels of government.

To prevent further casualties, Abiodun called on Nigerians to exercise caution and adhere to security protocols when attending future palliative distribution events.

He concluded, “These deaths diminish us as a people. At a time when families should be celebrating, this tragedy has cast a shadow. May the souls of the departed rest in peace.”
