The Abia State government has launched the distribution of 53 transformers to various communities to improve power supply and address persistent outages. Governor Alex Otti, represented by the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Ikechukwu Monday, underscored the importance of the initiative, stating that it would ensure reliable electricity in the affected areas. The distribution is taking place in phases, with 11 communities receiving transformers in the first phase, while 42 more communities will be covered later this week.
Governor Otti emphasized that the industrialization of the state cannot be achieved without a stable power supply and urged the communities to protect the transformers from vandalism. “This is taxpayers’ money being invested in these projects, and it is essential that they are handled with care and secured,” he added.
In response, Eze Innocent Ezeala, representing the communities, expressed his gratitude to Governor Otti for the initiative, noting that it would greatly enhance the quality of life in his community and beyond.
The transformers are expected to significantly improve electricity access for many residents, marking a major step toward improving infrastructure and supporting economic development in the state.
