Tragedy struck in Kano as a 60-year-old man, identified as Sabi’u Yusha’u, lost his life after falling into an abandoned well at the CBN Quarters along Hadejia Road.

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident, stating that they received a distress call at around 10:35 p.m. from one of their personnel, PFS II Sabo Wada Abdullahi.

According to Saminu Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of the Fire Service, a rescue team was immediately dispatched and arrived at the scene by 10:50 p.m.

“Upon arrival, the team found the victim unconscious after he had fallen into the well,” Abdullahi said. “He was rushed to Sir Sunusi Hospital for medical attention, but sadly, doctors confirmed him dead.”

Further details revealed that the victim was a driver for the first wife of the Minister of Defense. He had been dropping off some guests nearby when the incident occurred.

“The victim stepped out to urinate and unknowingly walked into an area with an unused, debris-covered well. While attempting to relieve himself, he stepped on the weak cover of the well, which collapsed, causing him to fall into the water,” Abdullahi explained.

The remains of Sabi’u Yusha’u were later handed over to Corporal Faruku Musa of the Dakata Police Division for further procedures.
