The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has shortlisted 57 distinguished legal practitioners for elevation to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

The announcement was made on Thursday by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabir Akanbi, following the committee’s 169th plenary session held on Tuesday.

According to Akanbi, the rank of SAN is conferred as a symbol of professional excellence on lawyers who have demonstrated exceptional distinction either in courtroom advocacy or academic contributions to legal scholarship.

“All shortlisted candidates are required to attend and successfully complete the mandatory pre-swearing-in induction programme, in line with the directives of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN),” the LPPC stated.

Furthermore, the committee emphasized compliance with Paragraph 25(1) of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Guidelines and Rule 39(3) of the Rules of Professional Conduct, 2023, which prohibit candidates from publicizing their nomination or allowing congratulatory messages in any form. Any breach of these provisions, it warned, could lead to sanctions.

The swearing-in ceremony for the new SANs has been scheduled for September 29, 2025.
