2027 Presidency: Tinubu’s Support Group Dismisses Opposition Unity as Futile

0

With the 2027 presidential election on the horizon, the Disciples of Jagaban (DOJ), a prominent support group for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has dismissed the potential of opposition political parties to unseat the president, even if they unite.

In a statement issued by the DOJ National Coordinator, Comrade Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, the group expressed confidence in Tinubu’s re-election prospects, asserting that the president’s ongoing reforms and political influence would withstand any opposition efforts.

“The regrouping of opposition politicians, whose common objective is merely to dislodge President Tinubu, notwithstanding the nobility of the reforms being undertaken, cannot stand the test of time,” Alawuje said.

He described the opposition’s coalition as a gathering of “unreliable and untrustworthy politicians” driven by self-serving motives rather than genuine national interest. According to him, these politicians lack the political acumen and strategic capacity to defeat Tinubu, who, against all odds, won the 2023 presidential election.

Alawuje further noted that credible opposition figures are beginning to acknowledge and embrace Tinubu’s bold reforms. He criticized some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who, despite benefiting from the party’s success, are aligning with the opposition to form a new political front.

“Opposition leaders may be making a costly mistake by assuming that the drama of 2015, where the PDP was decimated to dislodge former President Goodluck Jonathan, could be repeated in 2027. They must remember that it was the same Tinubu who was largely behind the success of the 2015 episode,” he stated.

The DOJ coordinator advised opposition members to learn from Tinubu’s political strategies, referencing the president’s 16-year hiatus from public office, during which he remained active in political consultations and strategy.

He criticized former governors, ministers, and lawmakers who, according to him, are now destabilizing the party due to a lack of political appointments. “Is political office a birthright? Why can’t they emulate Tinubu, who stayed away from power for 16 years but remained politically relevant through strategic engagement?”

Alawuje revealed that the DOJ had already launched its campaign for Tinubu’s second term in 2023, immediately after his electoral victory. He called on all APC stakeholders, including those yet to be rewarded with appointments, to remain steadfast and support Tinubu’s administration.

“The Disciples of Jagaban and the entire Tinubu campaign team are watching. We see no threat from these opposition groups; their efforts are simply a waste of time and resources,” he concluded.

The statement underscores growing political activity and positioning within Nigeria’s political landscape as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
