Umuahia, Abia State — Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia North has distanced himself from the emerging opposition coalition led by prominent political figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai, aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Speaking after a visit to Governor Alex Otti in Umuahia, Kalu acknowledged his close personal ties with all four leaders but expressed confusion over their political alignment, reiterating his full support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu.
“Atiku is a personal friend, Amaechi is a personal friend, Peter Obi is my brother and in-law, and El-Rufai is also my brother. But their coalition is one I don’t understand,” Kalu said.
He emphasized his commitment to ensuring APC remains in power beyond 2027, declaring, “APC is on course, and I have many triggers to pull for APC. I am not into any coalition; APC remains the largest party in Africa.”
Kalu also praised Governor Otti’s performance, calling him “a brother who is doing well,” but made clear that his political allegiance remains with the ruling party.
His remarks come amid rising political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as opposition heavyweights explore new strategies to challenge the dominance of the APC.
