2027: Ondo Is for Tinubu — Gov Aiyedatiwa Declares

AKURE — Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has vowed that there will be no political space for any opposition coalition seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027, declaring that the state is fully behind the president’s re-election bid.

The governor made the declaration in Akure while receiving hundreds of defectors from major opposition parties, including the Labour Party (LP), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The defectors were led by former Labour Party deputy governorship candidate Hon. Dayo Awude, former SDP state secretary Hon. Delete Ogunbameru, and PDP chieftain Hon. Suffy Uguogi.

Speaking at the Akure Town Hall event, Aiyedatiwa said the entire state’s political structure is committed to delivering an overwhelming victory for President Tinubu in 2027.

“In Ondo State, there is no room for coalition. It is one APC. Our declaration is that Ondo State is for Tinubu in 2027,” the governor said. “Winning Ondo is not the issue — we want an overwhelming victory, and your decision to join us is evidence that we will achieve it.”

Aiyedatiwa praised the defectors for making what he called “the right political move,” assuring them that their loyalty and contributions to the All Progressives Congress (APC) would be rewarded.

“This is the right place to be because the ultimate interest for any political party is to remain in power,” he said. “The dividends of good governance are already evident under President Tinubu’s leadership and my administration in Ondo State.”

Speaking on behalf of the new members, Awude, a former state commissioner, pledged his commitment to strengthening the APC’s grassroots presence.

“I have joined the APC to add value, and I assure Mr. Governor that he will see it. We are here to support President Tinubu and Governor Aiyedatiwa for the progress of the state,” Awude stated, citing Tinubu’s track record and Aiyedatiwa’s achievements as key reasons for their defection.

APC State Chairman, Engineer Ade Adetimehin, formally welcomed the new members, urging them to prove their political worth by delivering their units and wards in future elections.

“Any politician who cannot deliver his unit and ward is not a politician,” Adetimehin remarked, adding that both old and new members would enjoy equal opportunities within the party.

He called on existing members to embrace the defectors and maintain unity to keep advancing Ondo State’s development.
