Thirteen passengers abducted while traveling with Benue Links have been rescued following a coordinated operation by security forces and local vigilantes.
The victims were kidnapped at Eke in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State. According to DAILY POST, the local government chairman, Hon. Adah Inalegwu, confirmed the rescue on Sunday, attributing the success to a joint effort involving the police, local vigilantes, and community youths.
Inalegwu disclosed that two victims were rescued on Saturday through an initial operation. The breakthrough came on Sunday when intensified pressure from local youths—bolstered by support from neighboring Kogi State—forced the abductors to abandon the remaining eleven hostages at Oando village around 4:00 p.m.
He praised Governor Hyacinth Alia for providing vital logistics and enhancing surveillance and tracking measures, which significantly aided the rescue efforts.
The rescued passengers are currently undergoing profiling and medical checks before being reunited with their families.
Meanwhile, when contacted for comment, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said he had not yet received official details on the development but promised to follow up with updates.
