Kogi Government Orders Investigation, Vows to Strengthen Security
In the early hours of Monday, 12 inmates escaped from the Federal Correctional Center in Koton-Karfe, Kogi State, in a jailbreak that has raised serious security concerns.
Confirming the incident, Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, commended the swift response of security agencies while describing the escape as “unfortunate.”
He assured residents that the state government is taking decisive measures to prevent a recurrence, including launching a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the breakout.
“The theory that the inmates escaped through the tower without causing any structural damage raises serious concerns. This calls for a detailed probe to uncover how the escape happened, apprehend the fugitives, and identify any possible internal sabotage,” Fanwo stated.
In response, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed the State Security Adviser to collaborate with the Federal Correctional Center and other security agencies to reinforce security measures and prevent future breaches.
The Kogi State government also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting federal security agencies with necessary logistics and resources to enhance operational effectiveness.
While investigations are underway, authorities have assured residents that the situation is under control.
“There is no cause for panic. We encourage citizens to go about their daily activities as normal, knowing that the security of lives and property remains our top priority,” Fanwo added.
Security agencies are currently on high alert, working tirelessly to recapture the escaped inmates and restore full order.
