On Thursday night, several individuals were reportedly trapped in various tanker accidents in Lagos’s Iganmu neighborhood. During the calamitous episode, 11 vehicles were destroyed. A pile of cars, including two petrol tankers, was discovered blazing at the location, according to rescue personnel.
Dr. Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), revealed that one of the tankers was mounting the bridge when it rolled back and crashed with other tankers and vehicles behind him.
He said, “Further investigations revealed that one of the tankers was ascending the bridge when it rolled back onto the other tanker and other vehicles. The collision impact resulted in the fire.”
The number of people trapped in the inferno could not be determined, according to Oke-Osanyintolu, but preliminary assessments revealed that the multiple accidents involved three container-laden trucks, two tankers laden with unknown but highly flammable contents, one tipper truck laden with gravel, one flatbed truck, and three cars.
He stated that four fire vehicles, as well as LASTMA, LASEMA, and Nigeria Police, are on the ground.
