Lagos, Nigeria – A series of collisions involving a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus, a commercial yellow bus (Danfo), and a truck left 19 passengers injured on Friday in the Ketu area, heading towards Ojota in Lagos State.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) reported that the crashes occurred under the Ojota interchange bridge around noon, amid heavy rainfall. The vehicles involved were a BRT bus with number plates EXY-167XY, a 40-foot container truck, and an 18-seater commercial bus with number plates JJJ-439YG.

Witnesses at the scene revealed that the truck, traveling towards Ketu, lost control and veered off its lane, colliding with the BRT bus heading to Ojota. The impact forced the BRT bus into the service lane, where it hit the Danfo.

The accident caused significant traffic congestion, stranding motorists for several hours. Despite the severity of the crashes, there were no fatalities. Fifteen of the injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, while four victims received on-site care from LASEMA’s pre-hospital care team and the Lagos State Ambulances Service (LASAMBUS).

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, noted that the agency, in collaboration with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), swiftly implemented road traffic control measures. Vehicles were diverted into the BRT lane to facilitate the removal of the damaged vehicles from the road.

Fire Guts Residential Building in Magodo
In a separate incident, LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded to a fire at a one-storey building on Alhaji Jubril Street, Magodo Phase 2, Isheri. The fire, caused by an electrical surge from an air conditioning unit, quickly spread through the duplex, destroying items worth millions of naira.

Emergency teams arrived promptly, evacuating residents and containing the fire to prevent it from spreading to adjacent buildings. Some furniture and personal belongings were salvaged. During the operation, a firefighter sustained injuries after falling from the ceiling but received immediate attention from LASAMBUS officials.
