Bristol Isaac Tamunobifiri, popularly known by his online alias PIDOM Nigeria, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja. This comes after his arraignment on a nine-count charge brought against him by the Inspector-General of Police.
PIDOM, well-known for his investigative posts on X (formerly Twitter), was arrested for allegedly accessing and sharing confidential directives from the Inspector-General’s office. The charges include conspiracy, breach of the Official Secrets Act, leaking classified information, sedition, and cyberterrorism funding.
A few weeks earlier, Justice Emeka Nwite, the presiding judge, had denied PIDOM bail. However, in a surprising turn of events, the court granted his release on Friday, September 27.
Police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, had previously stated that PIDOM’s activities posed a significant threat, claiming he “illegally” accessed sensitive data and engaged in activities that could incite public unrest.
Human rights activist and #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, confirmed the development in a tweet, stating, “Isaac Bristol granted Bail! @PIDOMNIGERIA #FREEPIDOMNIGERIANOW.”
